Description

Studio portrait photograph of three men (Herbert Blake on right) - all prisoners of war. Blake's uniform shows the badge of a marksman, and one chevron - a good conduct badge. The card was sent to Herbert's sister, Annie Moore (living in Bolsover). The inscription in pencil reads: "8673 Pte H Blake, 2nd Suffolk Regiment, Gefangenenlager, Doeberitz, Deutschland". [Gefangenen Lager Doeberitz, Doeberitz prison camp, is about eight miles west of Berlin.] Stamped "15 Doeberitz Gepruft F.A. [Gepruft - examined by censor]"; "Kriegsgefangenensondung" [POW] and "London F.S. PAID Nov 10 15".
