Postcard of Herbert Blake in sailor's uniform, with a man dressed in Cossack uniform
Description
The photograph shows two Prisoners of War: Herbert Blake, dressed in sailor's uniform with ship's tally of HMS Pembroke on the cap, and a man dressed in Cossack uniform. (He could be a Russian prisoner of war, as there were Russians in the same camp, or possibly both could be in fancy dress). The postcard was sent to Herbert's sister, Annie Moore (living in Bolsover). Inscription in pencil reads: "8673 Pte H Blake, 2nd Suffolk Regiment, Gefangenen, Doeberitz, Deutschland". [Gefangenenlager Doeberitz, Doeberitz prison camp, is about eight miles west of Berlin.] Stamped "15 Doeberitz Gepruft F.A." [Gepruft - examined by censor]; "___ Schwedtke, Schwarzkollm"; "Kriegsgefangenensondung" [POW] and "London F.S. PAID Nov 3 17".
