Social events book for the Société Franco-Anglaise de Cardiff, Cardiff, 1906-1978

Description

This is an events book containing details of social events held by the Société Franco-Anglaise de Cardiff. There are entries starting from the year of the society's conception, 1906. However, most of the entries for social events are from 1964-1978. It contains invitation and RSVP lists for events, primarily Bastille Day dinners which are held on the 14th July to commemorate the beginning of the French Revolution in 1789.

The Société Franco-Anglaise was established in 1906 to promote friendly British-French relations by encouraging people to learn about French culture and study the French language. Its French plays, library of French books and celebrations of French festivals has attracted many British and French members over the years. The society, which is a registered charity, is still active today organising lectures, social events and trips to France. In 1995 the Société Anglo-Francaise de Cardiff changed it's name to Société Franco-Britannique de Cardiff.
