Description

Cardiff Municipal Musical Society provided musical theatre programmes for children, older people and those with disabilities. The Society existed from 1943 to 1993. They were charged with preparing and putting on performances for the public and providing opportunities for those who love drama.

The Society had showcased a variety of performances in their time and so had printed many theatre programme booklets for their productions.

This item is a programme for 'My Fair Lady', which was performed at the New Theatre in Cardiff between 17-22 March 1969.

The programme includes:
- A list of the Society’s leaders including Alderman Sir James Lyons (Lord Mayor of Cardiff), H Ferguson Jones and Captain J N Rose;
- A list of previous productions including 'The Mikado', 'Rose Marie' and 'The Merry Widow';
- A list of future productions at the New Theatre including 'This Story Is Yours', 'The Cherry Orchard' and 'Orpheus In the Underworld';
- The photographs of the producers and musical directors (Edgar Watkins, Gladys Johnson, Marguerite Thomas and Colin Underwood) and of the cast members (Norman Evans as I Eynsford-Hill, Vera Richards as Mrs Pearce and Shirley Whitman as Mrs Higgins);
- A message from the Chairman of the Operatic Section congratulating the Society on their 25th Anniversary;
- A list of cast and crew;
- A synopsis of scenes and a list of musical numbers including 'Wouldn't It Be Luverly?', 'I Could Have Danced All Night' and 'A Hymn to Him';
- A list of the Society's patrons and friends.
