An A4 leaflet folded into four pages, providing the history of Charles Street from the 1830s. The cover of this leaflet shows a photograph of Charles Street in 1910. Pages two and three give the history of the street from the 1830s to 1885. The last page gives the history of the street from 1887. There are illustrations of a house, and the Wesleyan Methodist Hall and Manse by Mary Traynor. The leaflet is based on 'A History of Charles Street, Crockherbtown' by Geoff Dart, and was edited by Marion Home. It was originally published by Charles Street Arts and reprinted by the City of Cardiff Planning and Development Department.

In June 1977, Cardiff Community Concern started the Charles Street Carnival as a community groups' alternative celebration of the Queen's Silver Jubilee. It became an annual event and grew into a separate organisation, Charles Street Arts. Cardiff Community Concern was an alternative advice and information service for young people founded by Ian Horsburgh, an employee of the City of Cardiff Planning and Development Department. It was based in 58 Charles Street.
