Description

Humphrey Jones writes to his parents on 17 October 1854 from London. He thanks them for the stockings and books which he received. He writes about the Crimean War and the 'dreadful havoc made amongst the poor Welsh Fusiliers'. He saw the names of the soldiers who lost their lives or were wounded and wondered whether any Llangollen men managed to 'escape the slaughter'. He says that he went on an errand for his employer to collect rents in a rather unsavoury part of London. In response to his mother's concerns regarding his linen, Humphrey informs her that his laundress is very particular and does not return any items until they have been properly aired.
