Thomas Matthews with comrades of the South Wales Borderers
Description
Thomas Henry Matthews of Treboeth, Swansea, was a miner before the war, but within a month of the start of hostilities he had joined the 3rd (King's Own) Hussars. He soon transferred to the South Wales Borderers: these photographs were taken at Sniggery Camp, near Little Crosby, Merseyside. (In one Thomas is on the left-hand side with the brush; in the other he is pointed out on the right hand side. Thomas is one of the 79 men commemorated on the Roll of Honour at Caersalem Newydd Baptist Chapel, Treboeth.
