Photograph of Archie Lee, Machine Gun Corps
Description
Archibald Alfred Lee (known to his family as Archie) of Croesyceiliog, near Cwmbran, was born on 7 May 1898 and initially joined the South Wales Borderers (probably in September 1916). He transferred to the Machine Gun Corps but was killed in action on 10 April 1918 during the German spring offensive - one month short of his twentieth birthday. This photograph shows him in the uniform of the Machine Gun Corps: on the back is written 'Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori'.
