Description
A VCS advertisement for a volunteering opportunity with CSV RSVP Wales: Knitting Organiser in Cardiff in 2010.
VCS’s main function, as a volunteering bureau, was to match potential volunteers with opportunities to help in Cardiff. The advertisements covered a range of volunteering opportunities from various charities and organisations. Each advert briefly described a role for needed volunteers. The type of work available for volunteers varied, for example: 'CSV - Full Time Volunteering', 'Cardiff and Vale UHB - Activity Group Assistant', 'Cardiff Cycle Workshop - Various Opportunities', 'Cardiff Council Parks', 'Age Concern Cymru - Nordic Walking Instructors', and 'Action on Hearing Loss - Loud Music Campaign'.
Voluntary Community Service (VCS) was established in Cardiff in October 1964 with main aim, as stated in its constitution, to promote any charitable purposes, advancement of education, relief of poverty, distress and sickness in the City of Cardiff. Originally VCS co-ordinated a team of volunteers involved in activities such as helping elderly people with gardening and decorating, running summer ‘work camps’ for children and young people. Its mission today is to enable people who are most disadvantaged to engage with rewarding volunteering opportunities, facilitating their personal development and employment prospects.
