Description

Robert Davies's reply dated 20 August 1969 to a letter from Jane Eley. He mentions funding, money and material donations, children's homes in Penarth, and supervising construction of an adventure playground.

Transcription:

"Dear Jane
Received your letter today. Glad to know your son is still fairly close to the ground!
I hope the enclosed plan is helpful. At this stage I should think it is all that is necessary - money promises are the important thing. However it is possible that when the time comes surely people will be able to donate all sorts of useful materials.
Incidentally, nemesis has caught up with me! In my capacity as Architect with Glam CC I am at the very moment supervising an Adventure Playground at one of our ? Children’s Homes in Penarth.
Best wishes to you and hoping to hear more soon
Robert"

Jane Eley was the fourth, full-time Voluntary Community Service volunteer, seconded from Community Service Volunteers.

Robert Davies, who actively volunteered with VCS, UNA, and many other organisations, is currently VCS Honorary President. He founded Voluntary Community Service (VCS) in Cardiff in October 1964. The organisation's main aim, as stated in its constitution, is to promote any charitable purposes, advancement of education, and relief of poverty, distress, and sickness in the City of Cardiff. Originally VCS co-ordinated a team of volunteers involved in activities such as helping elderly people with gardening and decorating, running summer ‘work camps’ for children and young people. Its mission today is to enable people who are most disadvantaged to engage with rewarding volunteering opportunities, facilitating their personal development and employment prospects.
