Creative response to sound recordings inspired by the Unlocking Our Sound Heritage Project 2018-2021

The National Library of Wales is one of 10 Network Audio Preservation Centres that have been established across the UK to work with the British Library on the Unlocking Our Sound Heritage project (UOSH). The project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, aims to preserve half a million rare and at risk sound recordings, improve access to the sounds, and deliver a programme of learning and outreach activities.

As part of the UOSH Project, participants from across Wales took part in various educational, community and commissioned workshops. They listened to various interviews from the National Library Sound Archive and used the recordings to respond and inspire a new piece of work. The projects were:
• Composers Create
• Mapping Land Voices
• What I’m Thinking About When I’m Thinking About Listening
• Sound of the forest: Yesterday and Today
• School workshops
• University workshops
