GALLANT MUMBLES SKIPPER (1919)
Captain W. G. Jones. Mumbles, has been awarded £50 and a silver medal by Lloyd's for meritorious conduct when attacked by a German submarine in the Mediterranean in July last. He has also been awarded £100 by the Admiralty.
Captain Jones, who is a brother of Coun. J. J. Jones, Mumbles, master of the steamship Polperro, was attacked by two German submarines, and in the unequal fight, the engineer and two firemen were killed, but the ship escaped.
