Interview with Dennis Pointon by Vicky Macdonald

Description

Short interview conducted by Vicky MaCdonald during the ‘Longest Yarn’ with visitors that shared personal memories and family stories in reaction to the exhibition. The Longest Yarn exhibition was a month-long tribute to the War Effort behind the D-Day Landings of 1944 - displaying a 3D tapestry depicting D-Day in 80 panels – was held at the Holy Trinity Church, Llandudno (October 2–27, 2024).

In this interview, Dennis Pointon shares memories of his uncle, George Harold Eardley (1912–1991), a Victoria Cross (VC) recipient. Eardley was distant from the family, but stories reveal his bravery in WWII, including an account of him neutralizing enemy machine-gun posts. Although he rarely discussed his wartime experiences, a statue in Colton honors him, though knowledge of his deeds has faded. Eardley’s VC medal was last known to be in Prestatyn, though its current location is uncertain.
