Interview with Graham Hickman by Vicky Macdonald
Description
Short interview conducted by Vicky MaCdonald during the ‘Longest Yarn’ with visitors that shared personal memories and family stories in reaction to the exhibition. The Longest Yarn exhibition was a month-long tribute to the War Effort behind the D-Day Landings of 1944 - displaying a 3D tapestry depicting D-Day in 80 panels – was held at the Holy Trinity Church, Llandudno (October 2–27, 2024).
Graham Hickman shares his father Cedric Hickman's experiences as an RAF pilot during WWII. Cedric trained in the U.S., missed the Battle of Britain, and flew Hurricanes and Mosquitoes, leading missions in Europe and later in Burma. Despite facing danger, including termite-damaged aircraft, he survived and returned as a decorated war hero. Graham fondly recalls his father’s influence, which inspired his own military service in the Royal Marines, where he served in the Falklands, and later became a mountain guide. He now resides near the area his father loved, watching planes fly over in a poignant tribute to his family's legacy.
