Short interview conducted by Vicky MaCdonald during the ‘Longest Yarn’ with visitors that shared personal memories and family stories in reaction to the exhibition. The Longest Yarn exhibition was a month-long tribute to the War Effort behind the D-Day Landings of 1944 - displaying a 3D tapestry depicting D-Day in 80 panels – was held at the Holy Trinity Church, Llandudno (October 2–27, 2024).
Gwyneth Peters recounts her childhood in wartime Anglesey, where her father served clearing mines. She recalls scavenging along the coast for supplies, reusing materials from downed barrage balloons, and collecting seagull eggs for food. Her family endured multiple losses during the war, including her mother’s brother, who was mistakenly shot down. Gwyneth also shares her husband’s survival story during a bombing in London as a child, narrowly making it to his 11-plus exam. Despite hardships, Gwyneth fondly remembers her family’s resilience and resourcefulness through challenging times.
