Description
Short interview conducted by Vicky MaCdonald during the ‘Longest Yarn’ with visitors that shared personal memories and family stories in reaction to the exhibition. The Longest Yarn exhibition was a month-long tribute to the War Effort behind the D-Day Landings of 1944 - displaying a 3D tapestry depicting D-Day in 80 panels – was held at the Holy Trinity Church, Llandudno (October 2–27, 2024).
Brian Lever shares memories of his father, a WWII RAF airman with the 138 Squadron, a covert unit for dropping spies into occupied Europe. In 1942, Brian’s mother risked traveling to Bedford Hospital so his father could briefly see him. His father heroically saved several aircraft from potential destruction by towing them to safety from a bomb-laden area, earning him a King’s commendation. Later, Brian attended annual reunions with his father, hearing stories from veterans and witnessing a Lysander aircraft flyover, which brought emotional memories for all involved.
