Description

The Longest Yarn exhibition was a month-long tribute to the War Effort behind the D-Day Landings of 1944 - displaying a 3D tapestry depicting D-Day in 80 panels – was held at the Holy Trinity Church, Llandudno (October 2–27, 2024).
Roger Goldsmith, who was a child during WWII, shares memories of living in Newark, Nottinghamshire. His father, a GP, was exempt from military service, and Roger, along with his twin brother, was sent to boarding school in Derbyshire. He recalls reading war news from a school-posted newspaper and witnessing bombers targeting a local ball-bearing factory near his home. Despite rationing, his mother supported troops through volunteer work in a canteen. Roger remembers the air raid sirens and the family sheltering in their cellar during bombings. Overall, his family emerged from the war relatively unscathed.
