Description

Short interview conducted by Vicky MaCdonald during the ‘Longest Yarn’ with visitors that shared personal memories and family stories in reaction to the exhibition. The Longest Yarn exhibition was a month-long tribute to the War Effort behind the D-Day Landings of 1944 - displaying a 3D tapestry depicting D-Day in 80 panels – was held at the Holy Trinity Church, Llandudno (October 2–27, 2024).

Lance Jones shares memories of his grandfather, Charles Price Williams, a blacksmith involved in building the Mulberry Harbours during WWII. Although too old to fight, Williams contributed significantly by building landing crafts and repairing bombed areas. Working in Conway, he traveled daily from his home and took pride in his wartime efforts, though he didn’t initially know the purpose of the structures he built. Lance recalls his grandfather as a strong, lively storyteller who maintained his strength and humor into old age. Sadly, Williams didn’t document his adult life stories before passing.
