Description
Short interview conducted by Vicky MaCdonald during the ‘Longest Yarn’ with visitors that shared personal memories and family stories in reaction to the exhibition. The Longest Yarn exhibition was a month-long tribute to the War Effort behind the D-Day Landings of 1944 - displaying a 3D tapestry depicting D-Day in 80 panels – was held at the Holy Trinity Church, Llandudno (October 2–27, 2024).
Wendy Lonsdale recounts the WWII experiences of her five uncles, all of whom survived the war. They served in various roles: one in Russian convoys, another with the African Rifles, one as a sailor in the Mediterranean, and the youngest in submarines in the Far East, where he pretended his sub was hit by Japanese attacks. Wendy recalls that all five brothers returned home in 1944 for their mother’s funeral as she was dying of cancer. Remarkably, despite the dangers they faced, all five uncles survived the war.
